Sarah ChandlerIts Official - Oxford blues is the BEST sports club in Oxfordshire!
Yes, its official, at an awards evening held at Oxford City Hall (in an old law court!) Oxford Blues Skater hockey club mopped up!
We had our Peewees, youth and Juniors all nominated for best team. The judges couldnt decde between them, so they gave us best club instead - and a cheque for the clubs funds!
Josh Florey got runner up Youngsportsman of the year and Richard Gregory got person contributing most to sport in Oxford.
The sports commitee was very impressed with our clubs success and what it does for Oxford. In particular, the amount of sports volunteers that are drawn from our club who help out in the street sports program.

Club Meeting
The next Club meeting will be <<to be announced>> at Wheatley park sports center.
This is a meeting for any one who has an interest in the club - not just for the committee members.
All are welcome.

Skater Hockey Scholarships - Play with OXFORD for FREE!!
The club is now offering scholarships to those who would genuinely love to play Skater hockey, but just cannot afford it.
This is aimed at younger, promising and enthusiastic players who would otherwise not be able to afford to play roller hockey.
The scholarship covers the monthly club fees ie regular training and regional matches.
BISHA,and SASH fees are not included. Regionals, Nationals, and other tournament fees are not included. It would suit those who have tried skater hockey at street sports sessions, but couldnt afford to continue.
The scholarships are limited to 4 players per season and must go to the most deserving players, with priority to younger players.
If you win the scholarship, you must show at all times that you deserve to have it. If not, it will be given to someone else.
So, if you realy want to get into hockey, this is a great opportunity.

E-mail me at richard@oxskate.com and I'll get details to you.

Team Shirts WANTED
Have you any team shirts that are too small, or unused?
Please concider selling or donating them back to the club and we can re-cycle them for new players.
If any one wants any new team shirts for the new season, then please let me know - preferably by e-mail. £35 each.

Thursday 13th of December was Club AGM
All the committee got the sack - and in a most undignified scramble, fought tooth and claw to regain their positions.
When the dust settled....
Bales is still Chairman
The Secretary seat remained empty
The treasurer is Elsie ably assisted by Brian.
Publicity is Richard.
Sponsorship. There was quite a contest for sponsorship. It was felt that as its such an important job, all those willing to contribute should be able to. So, Paul is 'commercial' sponsorship, Karen Willis is 'public' sponsorship. Will is older age group fundraising and Mandy and Kieran are Younger age group fund raising. So we should be getting in LOADS of money next season!
Development is Dave Edwards.
Older players Rep. Michael Coombs
Younger players Rep - Dawn

So - Any Volunteers for Club Secretary then?

Celebrate our 10th year.
We are planning various events to celebrate our 10th year of playing skater hockey.
These will be events for all the club to participate.

Have you any suggestions for us to mark this anniversary? Why not put (physically possible!) suggestions on the forum.

100 Club.
The 100 is now running and is producing winners.

Scholarships available For Oxford City Stars Ice Hockey Club.
Oxford Stars Ice Hockey Club (in association with the KOTS charity - Kids off the street) are offering scholarships to promising and enthusiastic players who would otherwise not be able to afford to play Ice hockey. The scholarship covers training fees ND match fees if the player is selected to play in matches. It would ideally suit Oxford Blues players who currently don't play Ice. If the only reason that you cant play ice is the cost , then now you can play for free! The scholarships are limited to 5 players per season and must go to the most deserving players, with priority to younger players. If you win the scholarship, you must show at all times that you deserve to have it. If not, it will be given to someone else. So, if you're serious about hockey, this is a great opportunity.

Application forms are available from the ice rink on Wednesday training evenings or e-mail me at richard@oxskate.com and I'll get details to you.
